Maggot Wounds in Dogs/Cats


  • A maggot infestation, also called myiasis is primarily developed in a wound infection
  • Maggot wounds are mostly develops rapidly in a warm-weather condition and is often caused by the blue bottle or bow fly (also house fly), which lays its eggs on open wounds of on badly soiled, matted fur


  • First complete Extraction of maggots is required (manually)
  • Dressing of wound and use of proper antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infection and NSAID
  • Endoicto parasiticides drug administration is required (for proper control of infestation)
